Adopt-a-Little Free Library Program Offers a New Chapter in Giving Back

By June 1, 2022June 7th, 2022Highlands Council, Volunteer

Here in the Issaquah Highlands community, we are very fortunate to be home to 10 Little Free Libraries. These little libraries are placed in various parks around the Highlands, and they provide families the opportunity to find free, new books to enjoy. It’s also a great way to share favorite books, meet neighbors and contribute to a sense of community.

To help support and promote our Little Free Libraries, we are asking you/your family to be part of our Adopt-a-Little Free Library Program. To participate in our program, we request that volunteers take care of one library for a year (June-July).

Taking care of the Little Library means the following:

  • Visiting your Little Free Library about once every week to check for a variety of books, to request books as needed and to remove inappropriate material
  • Delivering overflow books to Blakely Hall for distribution to other libraries in the community
  • Reporting any damage or maintenance needs
  • Assigning a back-up family (or staff member) to take care of the library during extended vacations

If you are interested in adopting a library, please contact lindsey.p@ihcouncil.org or fill out the Get Involved form, and we’ll get back to you!
