Issaquah Alps Trails Club Hike – Swedish

March 19, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join David Kappler for this second of two hikes to explore undeveloped land in the Issaquah Highlands owned by the City of Issaquah that is minimally planned and maintained at this time. What potential do they hold? Hiking trails, or should they remain as undisturbed wildlife habitat?

IATC is working with the City to develop programs to help them maintain and improve some of the excellent open space areas that they have. In the Issaquah Highlands there are two large parcels that are basically unplanned at this time. Over time the sites have had “tree fort” structures built, housed very large homeless camps, have had lots of garbage dumped on them, and fires that came close to being significant wildfires. We believe plans for responsible use of these lands need to be developed. Uses may include trails and areas where we would want to limit human contact and provide mostly undisturbed wildlife habitat.

This is the second of two hikes to explore different areas near the Highlands. On this hike, land west of Swedish Hospital will be explored.

Meeting place: Street parking on 5th Ave. NE, west of Swedish Hospital
Distance: <3 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
