Highlands Council and the IHCA wish to remind everyone who lives, works or plays in Issaquah Highlands of the possibility of wildlife encounters given our proximity to the many acres of green space that surrounds our community. All year long you may see or hear about bear, bobcat, coyote, deer, raccoon and birds of prey (to name a few) and human contact (crossed paths, garbage scavenging, etc).
Last month a resident of the West Highlands Park neighborhood reported his dog was attacked by a coyote inside his fenced back yard (the dog is recovering, thankfully!). This incident, while sad and unfortunate, comes with living in the Pacific Northwest. We remind everyone to always be aware of your surroundings, understand that unsupervised small pets are at the most risk, and to follow the community rules about managing your garbage.
