On Friday, October 9, 2020, King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert presented Highlands Council with a donated van in support of our efforts to find transportation solutions for the mobility challenged in Issaquah Highlands. Kimberly Kapustein, interim president of the Highlands Council Board of Trustees, received the keys on behalf of the organization in front of Blakely Hall .
The donated van is part of King County’s Surplus Fleet Distribution program and gifted with the requirement of transporting seniors, youth, low income, and mobility challenged residents within Issaquah Highlands. Highlands Council’s intended use is to provide transportation to and from community events hosted at Blakely Hall when safe to do so, post-pandemic.
Highlands Council continues to explore more comprehensive public transportation solutions for the community, and you can participate by registering for a virtual focus group. The one-hour focus group discussions provide an update on the research completed thus far, gather community input on how a shuttle would provide community benefits, and hear challenges to the needs of a shuttle service in Issaquah Highlands.
