November Volunteer of the Month: Ryan Hamilton, IHCA Finance Committee

By November 26, 2024General, Volunteer

Congratulations to View Ridge resident Ryan Hamilton for being recognized as our November Volunteer of the Month! Ryan brought his professional expertise to the Issaquah Highlands Community Association (IHCA) Finance Committee in November 2022, seeking a meaningful way to contribute through a local board or volunteer role. Thank you for your time commitment and involvement in building and supporting this community!

He had the following to say about his time volunteering and living in Issaquah Highlands:

***

What brought you to Issaquah Highlands?

I was born in Washington, and I’ve called the Eastside home since 1985.  I’ve been living in Issaquah Highlands since 2007, and I’m grateful to have many family members in the neighborhood as well.

What do you like best about living in Issaquah Highlands?

It’s been amazing to watch Issaquah Highlands grow into such a vibrant, thriving neighborhood over the years.  There’s a sense of shared commitment to building and sustaining our community.  I love the parks and the trails; and the location is unbeatable, so close to the city and the mountains.

Would you mind sharing something about your family?

I’m lucky to be married to my beautiful and exceptionally intelligent wife, Rainy, who works for Blue Origin.  Recently, we welcomed our daughter, Elise, who is two months old.  We also have a hyper-focused extrovert labrador named Hank; and a cat named Stirling.

How did you become involved as a volunteer in Issaquah Highlands?

A friend in the neighborhood, David Ngai, whom I’ve known for years told me about the opening on the IHCA Finance Committee, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity. As someone who works in finance, I had been looking for a way to get involved in a local board or volunteer role that aligned with my professional experience, so the timing was great.

Tell us about your experience as a volunteer on the Finance Committee.

Volunteering on the Finance Committee has been very fulfilling.  It’s a privilege to work with the dedicated staff at the IHCA and the volunteers in the community who are genuinely invested in the well-being of the place we call home.  We endeavor to be responsible stewards of our financial resources by making thoughtful decisions for the long-term benefit of the community.  Our goal is to nurture and preserve a strong financial foundation and balance sheet.  I have an entirely new appreciation for the amount of effort and planning that goes into making Issaquah Highlands the wonderful place it is.

What advice would you give to other about volunteering in Issaquah Highlands?

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering, I encourage you to do it!  It’s a great way to meet people and contribute to the community.  There are many different ways to get involved.

I’m very grateful for this award and for the opportunity to contribute to such a wonderful community!
