Josie poses with the latest issue of Community Connect, where she’s featured on the cover with her sister Ruthie.
If you’ve flipped through the spring issue of Community Connect magazine, you’ve already met Josie and Ruthie – the two smiling faces on our cover, captured with their favorite strawberry ice cream treats in hand.
Josie (7½) and her younger sister Ruthie (4), who live near Village Green Park, were the stars of a recent photoshoot where they taste-tested an assortment of ice cream and popsicle flavors.
Josie said her favorite part of the day was “being a role model for Ruthie,” while Ruthie kept it simple and sweet: “I liked the ice cream part.”
However, the photoshoot was about more than frozen treats. Beneath the playful cover lies a powerful reminder: our community thrives when we “melt the freeze” and connect with one another.
This concept speaks to more than just the change in seasons; it’s about softening the barriers between neighbors and warming up to each other. Rose, mom of the two girls, explains how it’s about more than just small talk — it’s about building community.
“It means getting to know our neighbors — feeling warmth from familiar faces, friendly greetings, and supporting each other,” she said. “The warm community here is our favorite part about living in Issaquah Highlands.”
Josie said melting the freeze means “blossoming trees and warm sunshine, and sometimes pretty rain.” Ruthie echoed her big sister.
