Protecting the People Who Maintain Our Community
One distracted moment behind the wheel can change everything. As traffic picks up in our growing community, staying alert and driving safely isn’t optional—it’s critical. Keep your eyes on the road and watch out for your neighbors.
Unfortunately, one of our worst fears came true in April when a Issaquah Highlands Community Association (IHCA) facility crew member was hit by a vehicle while working on landscaping. We’re relieved to share that our crew member is recovering from minor injuries, and the party responsible for the hit-and-run has been identified.
The IHCA employs trained landscaping professionals who perform essential work throughout the neighborhood—maintaining our landscaping, cleaning streetscapes, and ensuring public areas are safe. Much of this work takes place just feet from moving vehicles, often in areas with limited visibility and narrow margins for error. Even at lower speeds, distracted or hurried driving can have serious consequences.
A well-kept community doesn’t happen by accident—it’s the result of dedicated individuals who show up every day to maintain and care for our shared spaces. Let’s show our gratitude by driving with care, giving them space and keeping safety top of mind.
Sarah Hoey is the executive director of the IHCA.
