The Community Planning & Development Department is hosting a community meeting to inform residents at an early stage about a project to construct an electrical substation in Issaquah Highlands, parcel 3629880276.
Project elements include construction of the substation, reconfiguring drainage to existing stormwater pond, pond maintenance, repaving and widening existing driveway, improving drainage, and installing tie-in poles and wires to connect to existing transmission line on-site. During the meeting, project information will be presented by the applicant and attendees will be able to comment and ask questions.
A new distribution substation was an electrical system need, which was contemplated and planned for during the Grand Ridge (Issaquah Highlands) development agreement in the late 1990s-early 2000s, and presented in the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Grand Ridge planned community.
Substation construction will transfer a planned load from the existing substation serving the City of Issaquah to the Grand Ridge substation to alleviate capacity problems experienced by central Issaquah residents and businesses. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2026.
