Anti-Harassment Policy for Community Programs & Events

Highlands Council seeks to provide a welcoming atmosphere in which diverse participants may connect, celebrate and learn in an environment of mutual respect. We are dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive environment free from harassment, where everyone is treated with kindness and dignity. All participants, including but not limited to attendees, staff, volunteers, service providers and others, are expected to abide by this Anti-Harassment Policy.

Highlands Council has a zero tolerance policy for harassment and is committed to enforcing this policy at all Highlands Council hosted or supported programs and events.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity, age, race, religion, the use or display of sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption, inappropriate physical or digital contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Individuals asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately and may be expelled from the event at the discretion of Highlands Council, without a refund of ticket costs or other expenses.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the Highlands Council staff immediately. Please note, while we take all concerns raised seriously, we will use our discretion in determining when and how to follow up on reported incidents and may decline to take any further action and/or may direct the participant to other resources for resolution.

Staff will be happy to help participants contact local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe. We value your participation in our community programs.
