As the seasons change in Grand Ridge Plaza, there are several large milestones to celebrate.
During the month of May, National Physical Fitness and Sports Month provides an opportunity to celebrate and promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles. To celebrate this campaign, Grand Ridge Plaza is hosting the Silver Steps Challenge for residents and visitors throughout May.
The Silver Steps Challenge, named in honor of Issaquah Highlands’ 25th anniversary, features a walking path from Grand Ridge Plaza up to Village Green Park. With a goal to get people moving this spring, the campaign urges participants to hit 25,000 steps throughout the month for a chance to win fun prizes from Grand Ridge Plaza like tickets to a local sporting event or a $250 gift card to a local business.
To meet the 25,000-step target, you must complete the route four times – each lap up and down the hill equates to roughly 6,250 steps (or 2.8 miles). The loop around Village Green Park marks the midpoint of the route at 3,125 steps (or 1.4 miles). To enter, look for the text-to-win keyword sign at the end of the walk trail at southwest corner of Highlands Drive NE & NE Ellis Drive.
An assortment of trivia questions will also line the path throughout the month – questions will be updated weekly. Submit your answers using an online form (coming soon) for the chance to win even more prizes from Grand Ridge Plaza!
Other points of interest throughout the route include Community Pillars, Grand Ridge Plaza Park, Sunset Community Garden, Sunset Park and Village Green. This is all made possible through partnerships with 9Round Fitness, Barre3, DICK’S Sporting Goods, NaturoMedica, OrangeTheory Fitness and Restore Hyper Wellness.
Also in May, Highlands Council is hosting a weekly wellness program called Spring into Fitness. Join local fitness instructors for a free morning workout every Saturday in May. This is a great way to try a variety of workouts and get ready for summer! Each workout is appropriate for all fitness levels. The first 30 attendees for each workout will get a FREE Grand Ridge Plaza hiking pack.
- On the first Saturday, May 6, feel the benefits of an efficient and effective Barre3 workout by combining strength, cardio and mindfulness to leave you feeling balanced and empowered.
- On the second Saturday, May 13, 9Round is leading a full-body circuit training workout where you’ll punch, kick, sweat and walk away ready to tackle anything.
- On the third Saturday, May 20, join Orangetheory Fitness high-intensity interval training in this rare out-of-studio setting! A coach will lead attendees through body weight exercises and strength training moves designed to improve your power, strength and endurance.
- On the fourth Saturday, May 27, stop by a yoga session to remember for both the body and the mind with Pineapple Life Yoga. Enjoy the benefits of increased focus and clarity, improved flexibility and mobility, and an overall sense of calm.
