Vista Park resident Kashif Zahoor officially joined the Highlands Council Board of Trustees (BOT) in October 2022.
As a trustee, Kashif is looking forward to connecting with like-minded community members and continuing to find new ways to serve our community, while helping to make Issaquah Highlands a great place to live for decades to come.
“I wanted to give back to our community that has given so much to me,” he said. “The opportunity to make an impact in the community I live in is something I couldn’t pass up.”
Before moving to Issaquah Highlands, Kashif would commute to work from Maple Valley to Bellevue. He was constantly mesmerized by the beauty of the snowcapped Issaquah Alps and told himself that he wanted to live here one day. He officially moved to Vista Park in the summer of 2009.
“I fell in love with the urban village design and heard about all the new amenities that were coming soon like the movie theater, more restaurants, gas station and supermarket,” he said.
Looking back now, his favorite things about Issaquah Highlands are the sense of community, the diversity and the ability to walk everywhere.
Kashif joins the board with a wealth of volunteering/board experience, along with his love for our community. He previously served on the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank Board of Directors for nearly a decade as well as the Nourishing Network Board of Directors for five years.
This year, he became vice chair for Imagine Housing’s Board of Directors, a nonprofit focused on building affordable housing on the Eastside. He currently serves as treasurer of the Arboretum at Vista Park HOA as well.
His extensive board experience will assist Highlands Council with the ability to anticipate and meet stakeholder needs. With a background in marketing, finance and technology, Kashif is looking forward to using analytics and data to help quantify how well we are meeting our mission to foster the development of a vibrant and caring community committed to service, diversity, stewardship and well-being.
He also has an appetite for community building. To help implement our mission, Kashif aims to help inform future decisions by conducting surveys to better understand the voice of our community. He has already started working with the Highlands Council staff to increase engagement of our communications.
“I encourage everyone in our community to get involved in making our home a more welcoming place to live,” he noted. “Get to know your neighbors, come out to community events, join an activity group, and find time to volunteer. Our community is what we make of it.”
