Ben Armlin vacationed to Seattle in 2007, where he fell in love with the area. When his career hit a standstill in California, he opted to move closer to the Emerald City. He chose Issaquah for its proximity to the city and the mountains.
While driving through Issaquah more than a decade ago, Armlin took a left on exit 18 and arrived in Issaquah Highlands. Immediately, he had decided to put down roots here.
“We solidified the deal when we knew a movie theatre was coming,” he said.
He officially moved to the Issaquah Highlands on Labor Day weekend in September 2011. Currently, he lives on Huckleberry Circle with his partner, Missy, and Siberian Husky, Raiden.
Armlin lived in Davis, Calif., before moving to Washington state. He grew up in Northern California’s Sacramento Valley, he said. Most of his family, which includes 14 nieces and nephews, still live in the state.
As his first volunteer position in Issaquah Highlands, Armlin became a Garden Ambassador for Sunset Walk community gardens. For about 2.5 years, he has also served as president of the Huckleberry Circle HOA.
As the proud owner of Issaquah Ice Cream Trike, he’s donated business services to Highlands Council and other startups. When time allows, he volunteers for the Downtown Issaquah Association as well.
“I am deeply honored to be chosen as volunteer of the month,” he said. “I am proud to call Issaquah Highlands home and am looking forward to volunteering and contributing even more in the future.”
