Official IHCA Update 11/12/2018: The asphalt repaving of the BPA trail (pathway north of Park Drive at Black Nugget Park) is scheduled for today, November 12. Weather permitting the BPA trail will be reopened on Tuesday morning.
Official IHCA Update 10/24/2018: The construction on the BPA trail for the maintenance shop utilities is still in progress as we are waiting for the city required inspections, PSE, and water quality testing. The trail will open as quickly as the site has been deemed safe for vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Thank you for your continued patience as we work through this final step. — Sarah Hoey, IHCA Executive Director
Pathway Closes on Thursday, September 27,2018 at 7am Until Further Notice
The north-south paved path between Natalie Way/Bark Park and Park Drive/Central Park will be closed starting Thursday, September 27, 2018. This path runs adjacent to Black Nugget Park and is commonly called the BPA Trail (because of the large power lines). Here is what you need to know:
Why are you doing this?
The IHCA is building a maintenance facility and the city required us to install a second water line which feeds directly in to the fire suppression system. Additionally, PSE must run new conduit from Park Drive to the structure for power.
Why wasn’t this done in the summer when kids were out of school?
The IHCA has been working on this project for 2 years, the city recently issued a permit for the trenching and the contractors are now available.
How can I access the Vista Community garden?
The only vehicle entrance will be from 22nd court to the gardens, where the path bollards will be removed. Only one car at a time will only be allowed on the trail. Walk-ins must use the same route.
Can I walk through the construction site on the trail to walk to school?
Unfortunately, no. This area will be under heavy construction so for the safety of the people in our community no pedestrians will be allowed to walk through the construction zone.
What is the path to school, if I can’t take the whole trail to Park Drive?
Pedestrians on the trail from Natalie Way will be required to take Mulberry to 25th street. You can turn right on Larchmont to walk through Black Nugget Park to Park Drive.
How long is this going to last?
The closure is expected to last 10 days (weather dependent) but may end sooner.
Will the whole BPA trail be closed between Mulberry & Park Dr.?
Yes. The trail will only be open to pedestrians from Natalie to Mulberry.
Will we be able to enter the trail at Roanoke Woods & walk up to Park Dr?
No. Please see map for alternate routes.
We apologize for any inconvenience in advance. Thank you for your patience as we work through the last piece of the construction at the maintenance facility.
Sincerely,
