October Volunteer of the Month: Eric Wolak, Highlands Fiber Network

By November 1, 2023General, Volunteer

Congratulations to Westridge resident Eric Wolak for being recognized as October’s Volunteer of the Month in Issaquah Highlands! Eric serves on the Highlands Fiber Network Board of Directors. Thanks for everything you do, Eric!

When did you move to Issaquah Highlands?  And from where?
Shortly before the pandemic from Seattle, so not a very far move.  Why did you choose to live in IH? (Or what do you like best about living in IH?)
My wife and I loved the dense walkable neighborhoods with parks and trails everywhere – and of course, surrounded by the Issaquah Alps! We often drove out to Issaquah to hike anyway, so it made sense to live closer.  Could you tell us about your family?
It’s my wife and I and our two poodle mixes.  How did you become involved as a volunteer in IH?
This is the first time we lived in a large planned community, so I wanted to better understand how it all worked and how I could engage to help make it better.  Have you had other volunteer roles while living in IH (either for Highlands Council or another organization)?
I also sit on the board of our local HOA. It’s a great way to get to know other neighbors! Tell us about your experience serving on the HFN Board.
I’m a networking nerd, and never had the opportunity to see behind the scenes of an ISP before, so it’s been really fun!  What do you hope for HFN for the future?
I think HFN is a means for all of us to get quality internet in an area where other providers aren’t always motivated to deliver. I’d like HFN to continue to provide reliable service at a more competitive cost.

Are you inspired to get involved in the Issaquah Highlands community?
